Welcome on my webpage. My name is Anika Schmiedeke. I am currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Astrochemical Studies (CAS) led by Prof. Dr. Paola Caselli at the Max Planck Institute for extraterrestrial Physics Physik (MPE) in Garching, Germany.  I obtained my PhD at the University of Cologne under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Peter Schilke and Prof. Dr. Stefanie Walch-Gassner.

I am an astronomer and get to spent some of my work time visiting great places all around the world using amazing telescopes. The remaining time I'm mainly sitting in front of my computer running radiative transfer simulations to constrain physical parameters of low- and high-mass star forming regions.

Bottom: Sunset at the CARMA site. CARMA is short for the Combined Array for Research in Millimeter-wave Astronomy and was jointly operated by the California Institute of Technology, University of California Berkeley, University of Chicago, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and University of Maryland.  It was located on a high-altitude site in the Inyo Mountains of California. The array was unfortunately decommissioned in spring 2015, this included the removal of all antennas from the site.
